Largest White Pine
One of the largest white pines in the state of Vermont is located on the Bayley Hazen farm. The story about how it became so large is interesting. It is over the crest of the hill. and the hillside it is on was cleared for sheep in the 1800s. It grew on its own while being protected from the most severe weather. Because it was not competing with other trees, it grew outward as well as upward.
The big tree points formula is as follows:
- Trunk circumference (in inches): 212in
- Height (in feet): 90ft
- 1/4 of the crown spread (in feet): 62ft
= Total Points: 317.50
